Fourteen years after its original release on VHS, Seen Between The Lines has been reissued and remastered on DVD.  Consisting of concert footage inter-spliced with short interviews, and back-stage footage, this video is a gritty look at the Bay Area's thrash metal band, Testament, during the height of their power.  When I say 'gritty' I mean that the live footage is very rough.  The sound is 'out of the air' or taken from the stage mics (definitely not the soundboard), and the video is often distant, dark, and grainy.  Shot during the Clash Of The Titans tour with Slayer, Megadeth, and Suicidal Tendencies, Seen Between The Lines presents Testament as a street-level band despite the fact that it was (at the time) getting major exposure on MTV and playing arenas.

The ability to provide the band with a better finished product seemed likely, considering their success, but somebody didn't want to foot the bill at Megaforce or Atlantic.  This is odd when you figure the quality of all their promotional clips that were played on MTV.

Besides the concert, promo clips for "Nobody's Fault," "Practice What You Preach," "Souls Of Black," and "The Legacy" are included.  Bonus footage for the DVD reissue includes some footage of the band having dinner, the band in Tokyo, a bio, discography, and image gallery.

The Bloody Truth:  I have a huge collection of metal videos, both commercially released and bootlegs, so I'm glad that I can add this to my collection.  Seen Between The Lines maintains the bands street-level credibility, as it comes off more like a bootleg than something released by a huge record company.  This DVD captures the classic Testament lineup so fans should enjoy it, as long as they understand the 'low glitz' appeal.  The promo clips are very cool too but the disappointment comes in the fact that all of the band's clips (especially "Over The Wall" and "Trial By Fire") are not included.
