Lost In The Translation is the follow-up to 2002’s Prism, and this one rocks a helluva lot more.  Prism contained a few hard rock tunes but was weighted more toward the ballads.  Lost In The Translation is primarily an upbeat collection of melodic hard rock songs with three ballads thrown in to balance things out.

The bouncy “Believe In Me” opens the disc.  This song was co-written with Journey’s Neal Schon, and I believe Schon’s ripping leads are featured on this song as well.  For those who are not aware Schon and Soto are currently in a group called Soul SirkUS together.  A slightly darker rhythmic guitar sound is present on the mid-paced “Soul Divine” but it has a plenty of melody and a memorable chorus.  A tough guitar sound surrounds “Drowning” but this one is quick paced and a standout track.  The piano ballad “Beginning 2 End” shows the beauty of Jeff’s voice.  Thick and chunky rhythms rule “On My Own” and you won’t be able to stop bouncing your head to this one.

The Bloody Truth: Jeff Scott Soto has lent his vocals to Yngwie Malmsteen, Takara, Talisman, Axel Rudi Pell, the Rockstar movie, and so many other ventures.  He’s one of the best vocalists out there and Lost In The Translation finds Jeff delivering some timeless hard rock with melody.  He puts the artists you hear on rock radio to shame.  The success of this disc is not only in his strong vocal performance but also in the well-written songs and instrumental delivery from Soto on bass and keyboards, as well as guitarists Neal Schon, Howie Simon and Gary Schutt, and drummer Glen Sobel.  It doesn't get much better than this.
