Here's another one that's been sitting around our offices for a long time - unjustifiably.  Hailing from Espoo, Finland, Slipping Stitches began in 2001 as Peace Of Mind.  Under that moniker, the band recorded its debut demo, No Privacy.  Michael Monroe (Hanoi Rocks) produced, sang backing vocals, and contributed lyrics to two songs on that demo and they are included as bonus tracks on Melody Cruise.

Glancing at the cd cover, the band's edgy and dark look is reminiscent of many of today make-up-wearing rock bands, but musically these guys are pretty straight-up in their approach.  While there is a hint of something contemporary, Melody Cruise contains plenty of ripping guitar solos, melodic vocals, and memorable choruses for late 80s rock fans to sink their teeth into.  There's nothing dated here though, as Slipping Stitches has managed to create a current sound while incorporating all the elements of catchy traditional melodic hard rock.

The Bloody Truth: Slipping Stitches is a cool independent band that deserves some attention.  It's not easy to pin down their sound, as they're not a clone of anybody.  If you like songs with upfront guitars, strong choruses and a vocalist that actually sings (and doesn't scream his bloody head off), surf on over to their site and check 'em out.  The cd can be purchased at CD Baby - http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/slippingstitches - if you have trouble locating it.
