Pharoah features former Control Denied/Psycho Scream vocalist Tim Aymar, but the band was formed by drummer Chris Black way back in 1997. After The Fire, the band's debut, was recorded awhile back but is just seeing the light of day now. Although the group hails from the USA, they are completely influenced by European metal, falling somewhere musically between classic Iron Maiden and current power metal.
The Bloody Truth: This is a very solid recording, despite its similarity to what's been done before. Aymar's vocals suit the music perfectly, guitarist Matt Johnsen tears up the fretboard, and bassist Chris Kerns and drummer Chris Black lay down some very speedy rhythms. The choruses are a bit weak though, and this is an area that the band should work on for album #2. Fans of European power metal should give Pharaoh a listen. | ||
