The only Onslaught album that I own is 1989's In Search Of Sanity, which the band regards as their worst. Ironically, I only bought that album because Grim Reaper's Steve Grimmett had taken over the vocal slot in the band. Truth be told, I didn't like the album much either.
Live Polish Assault 2007 finds this British thrash band reuniting with original vocalist Sy Keeler, a guy that I've never heard before but he's someone that fits the band perfectly. Sy is a pro with the ability to hit the highs, the lows, and the in-betweens with ease. Why record executives thought he needed to be replaced way back when is beyond me. This story is addressed in the extras where Sy and guitarist Nige Rockett give a candid interview and shed some light on a band that many of us have overlooked.
The band's performance is tight as hell, the 5.1 sound is killer and the filming is up close and personal. The band doesn't move around much so they aren't all that visual, which is somewhat of a detraction. Additionally, some songs are better and hookier (the early stuff!) than others but Onslaught certainly deserve more notoriety than they've been given.
The Bloody Truth: This is a very professional recording from an sound and visual perspective. If you like thrash and have never heard of these guys, this DVD will impress you.
