While the music industry is always throwing something new against the wall, hoping that it will stick, Molly Hatchet ignores what's supposed to be hip and continues to deliver its brand of southern hard rock. It's nice to know that you can rely on one band to stay true to what they are all about.
Molly Hatchet has consistently released solid recordings throughout its career. Despite member changes, the band's sound has not wavered that much. Vocalist Phil McCormack joined on 1996's Devil's Canyon, and the band had a rebirth. The style of that album and its follow-up, Silent Reign Of Heroes, were satisfying to all fans of guitar based classic hard rock. The band did lighten things up with a piano, boogie-woogie feel on 2001's Kingdom Of XII, but the guitars take over again on Warriors Of The Rainbow Bridge.
The hooks are all over Warriors, whether it's the "Hell Yeah" anthemic shout on the opener "Son Of The South," or the slide guitar and "I'm Ready" chorus of "I'm Ready For You." Throughout the album McCormack's whiskey soaked voice pays homage to fallen vocalist Danny Joe Brown, and the tandem guitars of Bobby Ingram and returning veteran Dave Hlubek are something of a rarity in 2005.
The Bloody Truth: How often do you pick up a cd and get exactly what you wanted? It's rare. Molly Hatchet knows what their fans want. They know what they do best. They are the real thing. Warriors Of The Rainbow Bridge is southern hard rock, plain and simple, and Molly Hatchet are the definition of the genre. Hell Yeah! | ||
