Mercury Tide is a new band featuring former Angel Dust vocalist Dirk Thurisch. The scope of Mercury Tide is a bit different than that of Angel Dust, as Thurisch is more introspective in this arena, both vocally and musically. Mercury Tide features clean, atmospheric piano and more melodic, mid-paced passages than Angel Dust. It's not a complete departure however, as the heaviness of Angel Dust can be found throughout the album. Most of the songs feature multiple tempo changes, and just when you begin hearing a soft, somber passage, Thurisch (vocals and guitars), Tiamat's Anders Iwers (bass), Thurisch's cousin Dennis Riehle (keyboards), and Flowing Tears' Stefan Gemballa (drums) really bang things out. Thurisch even recruited former Angel Dust guitarist Bernd Aufermann to throw in some scorching leads.
The Bloody Truth: Why? is an album that's hard to categorize, but it's certainly traditional enough for melodic metal fans to enjoy. There are some gothic, somber, and haunting tones, giving the material an eerie feel, but it's definitely not a down album, despite the emotional lyrical content that discusses one man's search for himself. The melodies are tremendously strong and the choruses on "Back To Reality," "Another One," and the title track will be instant favorites. Dirk Thurisch has a great set of pipes and the direction of Mercury Tide is quite different than the rest of Century Media's roster. This is a hidden gem. | ||
