KARMAKANIC
- Entering The
Spectra (Regain Records N.A./The End
Records)
Score: 3 out of 5 Battle-Axes (more about rating system) Karmakanic is a progressive rock side-project from members of The Flower Kings, along with Göran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) on lead vocals, and a host of other musicians from the prog rock world that I am unfamiliar with. Although I'm not a prog-head by any means, I found this record to contain enough melodic touches (especially vocally) to be listenable to the average rock fan. There are also plenty of jazz improvisational touches, wild guitar runs, atmospheric keyboards, percussive moments, and longwinded excursions, which will satisfy progressive fans. Musically, the album ranges from jazz to metal to soft rock, so you'll have to be open minded. Instrumentally, these guys are top-notch, but overall Karmakanic's appeal will be mostly limited to the progressive fanbase. (Chris Dugan) |
