Sin After Sin isn’t the first record that comes to mind when you think of Judas Priest, but it’s certainly one of their best early works. Produced by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover, this 1977 album holds up to this day, and now that it has been remastered it’s crisper and cleaner than ever. The band’s well known cover of Joan Baez’s "Diamond’s and Rust" is present, but it’s the driving "Starbreaker," the dark and evil "Dissident Aggressor," and the anthemic "Sinner" that steal the show. The sedate "Last Rose Of Summer" and "Here Come The Tears" are clearly the weak link here, but the speedy "Let Us Prey/Call For The Priest" and mid-paced "Raw Deal," a song that sounds similar to the material on Hell Bent For Leather, are really strong album tracks. The remaster includes two bonus tracks, "Race With The Devil," a cover song, which was also done by Girlschool, and a live version of Defenders Of The Faith’s "Jawbreaker." Interestingly, Sin After Sin features session drummer Simon Phillips due to the exit of Alan Moore, so the photo only displays vocalist Rob Halford, guitarists K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton, and bassist Ian Hill.
The Bottom Line: The Sin After Sin remaster sounds great, features four classic tracks, two out of character soft songs, two strong but often forgotten album tracks, and two solid bonus tracks. It still holds up to this day, and is a more than worthy purchase for a traditional metalhead.
