When Priest...Live! was released back in1987, I didn't really pay attention to it. I really didn't like Turbo, and this live cd was from that tour so I just ignored it. Now, so many years later, I really think it's an excellent live album.
The interesting thing about listening to this period of Priest is how much lower Rob Halford sang. When I saw him on the recent tour supporting Resurrection, I was disturbed by the fact that he used his 'Painkiller' voice for too many songs. On Priest...Live! Rob rarely used that shrill tone. He just used it for flavor, and I think that suits the band and songs more. And overall, he sounded much better in 1987 than he does in 2005. Another point of interest is that this live release concentrated on material from British Steel through Turbo. There are no tracks from the early Priest recordings. This remaster does add the title track from Hell Bent For Leather as a bonus though.
The Bloody Truth: A song like "Parental Guidance," is crap, no doubt about it but I think I just like Priest a bit less heavy than they are today. "Out In The Cold," "The Sentinel," "Freewheel Burning," "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll," these are some of my favorite Priest songs, and they're all on here. Plus, the sound is magnificent. If you can overlook some of the weak Turbo songs, this really is a good live album (actually it's 2 cd's). And there are 3 bonus tracks on this remaster too!
