I found this one lying in a pile of cd’s that I’ve ignored since 2002.  After listening to Sünder Ohne Zügel, I remembered why that pile has been sitting there with dust on it.

In Extremo play weird heavy music sung in German.  Just what the metal scene needs, right?  If you’re answer is an emphatic, “Yes!,” then you are certainly tuned into the wrong website.

Rammstein got famous with this type of industrially heavy music, but I didn’t like it when they did it.  In Extremo throw a bunch of wood and stringed instruments into the mix, adding a folk industrial vibe to their rhythmically heavy sound.

Random Thoughts:

How the hell can any non-German speaking person sing along with “Merseburger Zauberspruche II” or “Lebensbeichte”?  For that matter, how can a German sing along with those songs?

Who is actually listening to this stuff?

How high or drunk do you have to be to combine industrial metal with folk music?

What’s next bluegrass metal?

The Bloody Truth: If this is the stuff that’s replacing good German metal like Gamma Ray, Running Wild, and Helloween, I’m gonna ask for someone to give me a labotomy because that’s the only way I’m gonna enjoy stuff like this.  This band has gotten play on MTV2’s Headbanger’s Ball, while real metal bands site on the sidelines.  What the f***?
