Fatal Force came together in 2005 when Danish guitarist Torben Enevoldsen (Section A, solo) recruited former Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist Mats Leven and Mind’s Eye drummer Daniel Flores for the project.  If you’ve heard Malmsteen’s Facing The Animal, you already know that Leven is a fine vocalist, having a slight similarity to XYZ’s Terry Illous.  Enevoldsen is an equally impressive guitarist, but he stays away from the neo-classical Malmsteen style.  The overall vibe of the music is very bottom heavy, except on the sensitive ballad “Far Away.”  The overall thick, bass, heavy drum focus overtakes the bright leads that Enevoldsen often delivers and pushes Leven’s vocals into the backseat (or at least your ear will be more inclined to hear the rhythms first).  The mix definitely favors the rhythms, and as a result the songs lose individuality and don’t capitalize on Leven’s cool delivery.  Still, several songs shine – specifically “Out Of Fuel” and “Eye To Eye,”  and the group is a quality unit with a professional delivery.

The Bloody Truth:  The members of Fatal Force have plenty of musical ability and seem to have some strong songwriting ideas.  My problem is that the emphasis on contemporary production and heavy rhythms actually hinders them, taking away their personality and burying Leven’s pipes and Enevoldsen’s leads.
