James Byrd was the original guitarist for 80s metal group Fifth Angel. Back then, James' delivery was a straight-ahead power chord style. Now, James is an Yngwie Malmsteen clone. Undoubtedly, he's incredibly accomplished, but listening to an entire album of neo-classical runs doesn't do anything for me, especially since Anthem possesses songs that are mellow and lack hooks. Michael Flatters has a fine melodic voice but he has absolutely no balls behind his delivery, but then again the music doesn't call for someone to get very aggressive.
The Bloody Truth: If you like mellow neo-classical metal, Byrd may be of interest to you. If you're a Fifth Angel fan, or a traditional metal fan, skip this one.
