Every once in awhile, Metal Blade releases an album that's completely out of character. Songs For The Wrong certainly is one of those albums. As a matter of fact, this release would be out of character for almost any label because quite frankly it's a sick, demented, evil, twisted collection of tracks. Of course I mean that in a good way!
For the unaware, lead vocalist/bassist Dave Brockie is better known as Oderus of GWAR. While GWAR is pretty damn outlandish, they're The Bay City Rollers compared to the unmasked Brockie, and his co-horts, two other GWAR alumni, Mike Derks (a.k.a. Balsac) and Brad Roberts (a.k.a. Jizmak). While "Should the Ugly Girl Blow Me?" and "Hard For A 'Tard" are the sickest songs in this collection of seventeen tracks, they're enough to realize that Brockie doesn't need GWAR to be outrageous. Lyrics like "Her eyes glued shut with my load" and "All you needs a glob of spit, a hole, and one good push" are small examples of Brockie's flair. The cd does lose some of its luster, however, as some of the songs lack shock ("He's Going Crazy") or meaning ("Slips Of Paper" and "Dog Log") and the disc contains too many tracks. Musically, Songs For The Wrong is not threatening at all, though, and will appeal to fans of heavy rock and punk.
The Bloody Truth: If you're looking for a bit of fun and nothing too meaningful, experience Songs For The Wrong.
