Bowes & Morley is comprised of vocalist Danny Bowes, guitarist Luke Morley, both of UK hard rock band Thunder, and a host of supporting musicians. While Thunder is a blues based hard rock band, Bowes & Morley concentrate on the soul side of 70s rock. Covers of "Living For The City" (Stevie Wonder), "Why Did You Do It" (Stretch), "Come Together In The Morning" (Free), and "I Can't Stand The Rain" (Ann Peebles) should give you an idea of the band’s direction. Besides the covers, there are also seven originals, which range in style from the upbeat horns and piano driven opener "Desire" to the funk of "Waiting For The Sky To Fall" to the laid back vocally driven "On A Day Like Today." Vocally, Danny Bowes is perfect for this type of music, coming from the same school as Bad Company/Free vocalist Paul Rodgers. Luke Morley’s guitar blends into the music and is not the driving force here, just a piece of the puzzle.
The Bloody Truth: Hard rockers may find this to be too light, although there certainly are moments where the band lets loose a bit. If you like soulful 70s rock, Bowes & Morley do it very well. This isn’t a style that’s heard much today so the guys get brownie points for originality.
