An Interview with Bassist BILLY CHILDS

  -by Dirt

If you were a fan of MTV in the late 80s, you undoubtedly know the band BRITNY FOX.  The Pennsylvania hard rock group hit big with the videos for "Long Way To Love" and "Girlschool," which took their self-titled debut to platinum status and the band on successful tours with Bon Jovi, Poison, and Ratt.  The band's 1989 follow-up, Boys In Heat, displayed a more diverse style and was doing well when lead singer "Dizzy" Dean Davidson got into a fight with guitarist Michael Kelly Smith.  Britny Fox came to an abrupt halt as Davidson summarily exited the group.  After a long search for a new vocalist and a change in record companies, Britny Fox re-emerged in 1991 with Tommy Paris at the mic and their best album to date, Bite Down Hard.  Unfortunately, the grunge seen was just around the corner and the band's deserved success was stunted.  Since that time, the band has done a few shows, recorded and released "Long Way To Live" (2001), and released a not-so-well received studio album entitled "Springhead Motorshark."

But now, the big news....Britny Fox is on tour in June and July of this year with an altered lineup featuring original bassist Billy Childs and vocalist Tommy Paris.  Unfortunately, guitarist Michael Kelly Smith has declined the invitation to be part of the tour and drummer Johnny Dee is currently on tour with Doro, but former White Lion drummer Greg D'Angelo and a relatively unknown guitarist Tommy Krash will be filling the voids.  Prior to the tour beginning, I had a great chat with Billy Childs about the tour and the history of the band.  Given a listen to the .mp3's below.
